Its 7-meter-high plinth features three bas-reliefs &#8211; by local sculptor Marie-Josephe Cotelle Cl\u00e8re &#8211; representing the patron saints of the 3 &#8220;sister towns&#8221;: Saint-Jacques for Le Tr\u00e9port, Saint-Laurent for Eu and Saint-Martin for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.destination-letreport-mers.fr\/la-destination\/presentation-des-communes\/mers-les-bains\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Mers-les-Bains<\/a>. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Belle \u00c9poque villas<\/strong>: with the discovery of sea bathing and its therapeutic benefits, Mers underwent spectacular development. At the end of the 19th century, the railroads brought the first holidaymakers, known as &#8220;Baigneurs&#8221;, to our shores. These bathers, drawn from the aristocracy and wealthy bourgeoisie of the time, were to settle here, building the first second homes of our modern world.  <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/details>\n\n\n\n<details class=\"wp-block-details is-layout-flow wp-block-details-is-layout-flow\"><summary><strong>THE CITY OF EU<\/strong><\/summary>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Come and visit the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.destination-letreport-mers.fr\/la-destination\/presentation-des-communes\/ville-d-eu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">royal city<\/a> between land and sea.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The <strong>Ch\u00e2teau Mus\u00e9e Louis Philippe<\/strong>: built by the Duke of Guise in the 16th century, it evolved over the centuries to become the favorite residence of the last French king, Louis-Philippe. 2012 saw the magnificent restoration of the Galerie de Guise, a sumptuous salon with a collection of 46 portraits. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The <strong>park<\/strong> and the <strong>French<\/strong> <strong>garden<\/strong>: charming places to stroll around.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The <strong>Collegiate Church of<\/strong> <strong>Notre-Dame<\/strong> and its crypt: construction began in the second half of the 12th century in honor of Saint Laurent O&#8217;toole, Archbishop of Dublin, who died in Eu in 1180.
